Nursing Supervisor/ Med Surg

Directs care provided by nursing department by delegating, coordinating, collaborating and prioritizing hospital wide needs Assesses patient needs. Plans, implements, and evaluates care based on priorities and the specific patient care outcomes. Plans with nursing care teams the implementation of standards of care/practice for nursing department. Evaluates the effectiveness of care for all patients. Aware of management of patients and significant changes. Teaches, leads and is a role model for members of the care teams. Assists in analysis of patient care and care variances for nursing department, Demonstrates clinical competency and critical thinking, demonstrates expert knowledge of hospital and unit specific structure, process and standards Participates in performance improvement activities. Effectively performs as a member of the healthcare team. Takes initiative in improving aspects of quality patient care. Promotes the vision and mission of Victory Healthcare. Ensures the safety of patient's families and other staff.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY: Possesses advanced skills in recognizing and in dealing with complex problems with patient/family, staff and other health care team members; Coordinates all patient care activities throughout the hospital on his/her assigned shift, provides leadership; works cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting, responsible for meeting standards of care/practice, J.C.A.H.O. and state requirements.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a School of Nursing with current state license as a Registered Nurse in the hospital where the hospital is located, Bachelor's degree preferred. Current BLS, PALS and ACLS required. Three years of acute care, one year critical care, one year leadership experience is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Good general health and stress coping ability. Full mobility and ability to participate in normal activity. Demonstrates ability to speak and hear to communicate with patients, physicians, hospital personnel and the public. Near vision acuity for accurate reading and ability to inspect and analyze work. Able to lift up to thirty (30) pounds. Able to bend, stoop and stretch with minimal physical limitation.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY: The normal procedure involves potential exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Universal Precautions with patients should be adhered to in the unlikely event of accidental exposure with ready access to first aid. Protective devices should be worn by the employee when performing tasks that may cause exposure.
